WHAT IS POWDERY MILDEW?

 

Powdery Mildew is a common Turf grass disease that occurs on Bluegrass and Ryegrass, causing the blades of the grass to turn White.

 

WILL THIS HURT MY LAWN?

 

Powdery Mildew can over time decrease the vigor of your lawn by reducing the amount of sunlight that reaches the plant. This will decrease the plants ability to produce food thru photosynthesis, resulting is slow thinning of the grass.

 

WHAT CAN BE DONE?

 

To reduce Powdery Mildew one must try to eliminate the cause. Excessive moisture is the key cause. If area is shady reduce the amount of watering, you do in these areas. Prune plant material to allow more sun light in, the more light that can penetrate an area the faster it will dry out.

 

Chemical Controls do exist for this, but they must be applied on a regular basis to be effective – every 1-2 weeks.
