TODAY WE FOUND FUSARIUM BLIGHT IN YOUR LAWN!!
WHAT IS Fusarium BLIGHT SYNDROME?
Fusarium blight syndrome is a turf disease which causes a
Frog-eye shaped pattern, or typically a dead ring of grass with a green spot inside. Typically these rings overlap each other Making it difficult to find a perfect ring.
IS Fusarium BLIGHT SYNDROME SERIOUS?
It can be very serious!! Fusarium blight can completely destroy a lawn under the right conditions!!
WHAT CAN BE DONE!!!
First, it is important to understand that this problem is not related to the services Earth Care provides! University studies have proven that excessive fertilization can promote Fusarium, however these levels are far above those we apply to your lawn.
Control of Fusarium is at best difficult! Because Fusarium is actually caused by a group of fungi within the soil, it is very difficult to control. Control products are available but tend to be very expensive and short lived (1-2 weeks.) Therefore, Earth Care recommends the following: 1) always mow as high as possible. 2) During hot-dry periods apply heavy infrequent watering’s to help develop a deeper root system.
If the Fusarium is extremely bad in your lawn, water frequently to reduce the heat and moisture stress on your Lawn. Your goal in this case is to get the lawn through the hot weather. As weather cools, water heavily and infrequently. 3) Core aerate your lawn annually.
WHY MY LAWN?
There is no good answer to that question! However, we at Earth care have found that sodded lawns tend to be the most susceptible. This is probably due to the fact that often newly sodded lawns never develop a deep root system due to soil conditions and the heavy watering they initially receive.
